Characters
Characters are a campaign pillar introduced in the Gambler's Chest Expansion. They introduce new dimensions to the survivors living in the shadow of the mightiest settlements. Powerful progenitors have changed the very landscape, leaving traces that shape future settlements. Characters explore unique quirks and idiosyncrasies that shape survivors beyond their blank slate.[1]
Unlocking Characters[edit | hide | hide all]
Characters are not available for immediate use. After players defeat the Godhand in a People of the Dream Keeper campaign, they unlock Characters for subsequent campaigns in Epilogue.
Adding Characters[edit | hide]
To add Characters to a new campaign, add Character to your game box. It is earned as a consequence of Inner Lantern.
Building the Character Deck[edit | hide]
The Character deck represents the best and worst of your settlement. When your settlement innovates Character, create the character deck using character cards from your collection:
- The deck must have a minimum of 24 cards.
- For every impairment type card you may add up to 5 ability type cards to the deck.
- After constructing the deck, you may add 1 legendary ability card.
Character Cards[edit | hide]
Character cards are comprised of the following components:
- Name: The name of the ability or impairment.
- Type: Ability, impairement, or legendary ability.
- Rules: The rules that immediately apply to the survivor. They can include existing abilities/impairments, attribute modifications, disorders, or new states unique to this character trait.
Gaining Character Cards[edit | hide]
After the settlement innovates Character, draw a random character card from the settlement's character deck whenever a survivor is named. When a survivor draws a character card, they gain the listed ability or impairment, recording the name and rules on their survivor record sheet. Then return the character card to the deck.
